This poster was designed for Bryan Tallevi's production of
A Chorus Line. The director wanted to accentuate the facelessness of the chorus dancers without loosing the focus on the precision of their craft. In this version of the poster, the empty hat stands in for the dancers as well as represents the possibilities involved with the auditioning process (one of the main themes of the show). The white area along the bottom represents the actual dance line itself and the letters of the title seem to grow out of this line as if they were the very dancers themselves.
Created in black/white so that the poster could be photocopied on tabloid size paper, this design helped to keep production costs down and allowed for a greater number of posters to be printed as publicity material.
